A COUNTRY IS GONE.
THE FOOD ISN’T.
Last of the Yugos is a New York bakery project rooted in the cookies, shortbreads, and small sweets of the former Yugoslavia.
These are the foods that traveled with us — through borders, family kitchens, handwritten recipes, and memory. The kind of things you grew up eating without ever thinking they would one day need to be preserved.
I was born in Sarajevo, then spent years building a life in New York and working in professional pastry kitchens. Last of the Yugos is where those two worlds meet: traditional Balkan flavors and forms, made with the technique and perspective I picked up along the way.
The point is not to freeze these recipes in time. It is to keep them alive — respect what they were, make them well, and give them room to become something new without losing where they came from.
BORN IN THE BALKANS. BAKED IN NYC.
